When I researched for some tips on how to speed up my computer during startup, I discovered that the dozens of programs that automatically turn on whenever I start up my slow computer are to be blamed for the loss of its usual speed.  What I then did was run “msconfig” which you can also do by going to Start and click on Run then type the word “msconfig”.  Find the “StartUp” tab and uncheck all the boxes of those programs you don’t really need to run every time you turn your computer on.

2.      If You Do Not Need It, Delete It

Delete the files you have created but have no use for anymore.  What I did on how to speed up my computer was to also delete the programs or software that I have downloaded to my pc.  They use a chunk of your hard disk memory compared to a hundred of your documents.

All the work I do is in my laptop, so my screen is always full of opened applications, files and programs.  As I searched for ways on how to speed up my computer, I did not realize I am to be blamed as well. Opening a photo editing tool while running a virus scan in the background will result to a slow computer operation.  Opening four internet browsers with fifteen tabs opened on each will also give the same result.  This reminded me of that day when I looked online for procedures on how to speed up my computer – I had a browser with almost twenty tabs opened.

So these are the three ways that I have followed when I checked for answers on how to speed up my computer.  The performance of my PC greatly improved and my daily tasks are completed with ease and excellent speed.

3.      Make Accessing Data A Lot Faster

Another culprit in slowing down the overall performance of your system is disk fragmentation.  This is so because your computer searches the hard disk as a file is opened during fragmenting and the response time for this process can take significantly longer.  One of the steps I found on how to make my computer faster is to use a disk defragmenter.  What it does is to collate fragmented folder and files on the hard disk of your computer so that each of them vacates a single space on the disk.  This makes writing and reading to the disk speeds up.

On a daily basis, there are also things that I regularly practice on how to make my computer faster.  First is to always keep my computer clean by removing junk like unnecessary registry entries.  I used to install software after software before, until I found out that one important thing on how to make my computer faster is to actually refrain from doing that.  Only install a program if it really is necessary.  Follow all these steps and you can be assured of a fast running computer every day.

A newly bought computer has fascinating speed. However, after a little while, the speed becomes slower and slower which is sometimes infuriating especially if it is used for important purposes. Here are a few tips to keep the computer running fast. These tips work for operating systems like Windows XP, Windows 7, Windows Vista and Windows 8.

Removing spyware and protecting computer from viruses

Spyware slows down computers because it accumulates information without permission. To remove spyware, it is best to download the Microsoft Security Essentials. This helps protect the system from spyware and even viruses, malware and adware. Once it is installed, it automatically updates.

De-clutter the disk space

It is easy to clear up disk space with the help of the Disk Cleanup tool. This tool identifies which can safely be deleted and won’t affect the computers performance when deleted. The disc cleanup can do tasks such as: delete downloaded programs and installed programs which are not in use, optional windows components which are not used; empties the recycle bin; removes temporary internet files, windows temporary files (error reports) and unused restore points. In windows 8, it also deletes system files.

To use the Disk Cleanup Tool, just click “Start” the go to “All Programs, Accessories, System Tools then Disk Cleanup”. Tick all the boxes except “Setup Log Files” and then click “OK”. A prompt to proceed will appear; permit it and then click “yes” is asked to delete specified files.

Defragment computer files

The disk defragmenter works like a glue or a magnet which joins together fragmented files and folders in the hard disk. Fragmented files slow the system performance because it will take the computer longer time to search for a file due to the spaces. The disk defragmenter eliminates spaces between files too so that files are “neatly stacked” like in a library where books are placed one after the other.

To use disk defragmenter, go to “Start, All Programs, Accessories, System Tools then Disk Defragmenter.” Select the drive which is “C” then click “Defragment Disk”. Then, it analyzes the hard disk and makes a recommendation whenever it is necessary to defragment.

Use the Readyboost Technology

Readyboost stores files that take up space in Random Access Memory (RAM) onto a flash drive to free up space on the RAM. A flash card with 1GB size or an SD card may be used. To use it, plug the drive into to computer. When the “Autopay” dialog comes out, click “General options, Speed up my system, Properties then Readyboost”. Afterwards click “Deactivate this device to ReadyBoost” and lastly. Click “OK”.

Other ways to keep the computer running smoothly is adding up on Random Access Memory or RAM. It allows many windows to be opened without thrashing and also using the Disk Error Checking Utility to repair disk errors. These steps will help make any slowed down computer to work as good as new. So say goodbye to slow computer running by employing any of the methods above and enjoy a speedier computer run.
